Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer honors Finale Executive Pastry Chef Nicole Coady – Mother and Grandmother successfully treated for breast cancer

Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer is a sweet way to raise "dough" to battle breast cancer. More than 100 restaurants and bakeries in the Boston area will bake unique desserts the week leading up to Mother's Day, May 5 – 11. One hundred percent of sales from a specially selected dessert will benefit breast cancer research and care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

"Breast cancer is the leading cancer in women, with only lung cancer resulting in more deaths," say Eric Winer, M.D. "However, as more women detect breast cancer early and treatments continue to improve, the odds of surviving a diagnosis of breast cancer continue to improve too. The vast majority of women diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008 will go on to lead long and healthy lives. At Dana-Farber we use the funds raised from Boston Bakes to help conduct clinical trials and research to make success rates even better."

To help with this effort, simply indulge in dessert at a participating restaurant or bakery. Desserts cost around $8. There will also be a delicious kick-off celebration with desserts and wine for $45 at Finale Park Plaza on May 1, as part of the Finale Women Who Wine & Dine series.

The 9th annual Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer honors Nicole Coady, Executive Pastry Chef at Finale. She has been a supporter of Boston Bakes since its inception for both professional and personal reasons. Her mother Dianna Ryan and grandmother Lucille Messenger were successfully treated for breast cancer. "We do so many events, but Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer is close to my heart," says Coady. "Desserts put people in a positive place. It's a great opportunity for me to give back to cancer survivors and cancer research."

Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer began in 2000 by Carol Brownman Sneider to pay tribute to her mother, Eva Brownman, who lost her battle with breast cancer in 1973 at age 44. The event has raised more than $190,000 since the beginning and this year organizers hope to reach the quarter million mark.
